Tax and Finance for Nomads in Nepal

If you're on a tourist visa and earning from abroad (clients or employer outside Nepal), you generally don't pay Nepali income tax. Nepal taxes income earned in Nepal or from Nepali sources.

Residency

Tax residency is based on spending 183+ days in Nepal in a fiscal year. Most nomads on tourist visas (max 150 days per visa year) don't become residents. Keep records of your entry/exit stamps.

Banking and reporting

If you open a local bank account, declare it if required by your home country (e.g. FBAR in the US). Use Wise or international cards for most spending to simplify reporting.

Best practices

Keep your business and income outside Nepal. Get advice from a tax professional in your country of residence for long-term planning.
