Housing Options for Nomads in Nepal
Most digital nomads in Nepal choose between guesthouses, Airbnb-style rentals, and short-term apartments. Long-term leases (6+ months) are possible but less common for visitors on tourist visas.
Guesthouses & hotels
Thamel and Lakeside have hundreds of guesthouses. Monthly rates range from $150–$400 for a simple room with WiFi. Negotiate for stays over 2 weeks. Power cuts are common; ask about backup.
Short-term rentals
Airbnb and local Facebook groups (e.g. "Rooms in Kathmandu") list apartments and shared houses. Expect $250–$600/month in Kathmandu for a decent one-bedroom. Landlords often prefer cash in NPR.
Best areas
- Kathmandu: Thamel (convenient, noisy), Lazimpat/Baluwatar (quieter, pricier), Boudha (cultural, good cafes)
- Pokhara: Lakeside (touristy but well-connected), Pardi (quieter)
