Nepal Visa Extension: How to Extend Your Tourist Visa in Kathmandu
Step-by-step guide to extending your Nepal tourist visa at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu. Costs, documents, and how long it takes.
Most digital nomads extend their 30- or 90-day visa at least once. Here’s the practical guide.
Where to extend
Kathmandu: Department of Immigration, Lazimpat (near the British Embassy). Open Sun–Fri. Arrive early — 9–10 am is ideal.
Pokhara: Immigration office in Pokhara (same process, shorter queues).
Costs
$3/day for the first 60 days of extension, then $5/day. You can extend up to 150 days in a single visa year (July–July).
What to bring
Passport, one passport photo, proof of address (hotel or rental letter), and cash in USD. The process usually takes 30–60 minutes. No need for an agent — do it yourself.
Pro tip
If you know you’ll stay 90+ days, get the 90-day visa on arrival ($100) to avoid multiple extension trips.
